FAQs
What is a Mental Health Care Plan?
A Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) is a referral from your GP that allows you to access Medicare rebates for up to 10 sessions with a psychologist per calendar year. While it’s not required to see John, it can significantly reduce out-of-pocket costs. If you’re unsure how to obtain one, your GP can guide you through the process, or you can contact us for support.
Can I see John under the NDIS?
Yes. John is an experienced NDIS provider and sees clients with self-managed or plan-managed NDIS funding. He supports neurodivergent individuals with a range of needs, including Autism, ADHD, and intellectual disability. Sessions focus on building emotional regulation, communication, and psychological wellbeing. If you're unsure whether psychology is included in your plan, we recommend speaking with your support coordinator or contacting us directly for guidance.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule?
We understand that life can be unpredictable. If you need to cancel or change your appointment, please provide at least 24 hours’ notice to avoid a cancellation fee. This helps ensure we can offer your time slot to someone else. If notice is not provided in time, a cancellation fee may apply. If you’re unsure whether you can attend, we recommend reaching out to discuss options.
What happens in a therapy session?
Therapy sessions are guided by your goals, at your pace. John works collaboratively to explore challenges, strengthen insight, and develop practical strategies using approaches like ACT, CBT, and mindfulness. The first session is about understanding your needs and building rapport. Over time, sessions can help clarify patterns, improve coping, and support long-term growth in a safe, non-judgemental environment.
Do you offer in-person appointments?
Yes. While John primarily works via telehealth, he can offer in-person sessions in Thornbury on request, depending on availability. Telehealth allows for flexible, accessible support from the comfort of your own space, while in-person appointments may be helpful for those who benefit from face-to-face interaction. Please contact us if you’d prefer to meet in person — we’re happy to accommodate where possible.
Where can I find immediate support in a crisis?
